Birnam wood
Questions, Comments, Criticisms july 17, 2007

Southwark, London, England, UK

This little stand of birch is just outside of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. It's only a few feet wide. I don't know if they actually call it Birnam wood (Macbeth V.III), but it seemed appropriate. :-)

We saw Love's Labours Lost as groundlings. One of the high points of the trip. We ended up leaving at intermission; grudgingly of course. After walking around for two weeks, our feet just couldn't handle it any more. To console ourselves we went for dinner at The Anchor, reputed (by our Thames boat tour guide at least) to have been frequented by none other than Master Shakespeare himself. As it's been around for 800 years in one form or another, and is quite close to the site of the original Globe, why not? Besides, it makes for a great story.

"So what did you do in London?"

"Saw Shakespeare at the Globe, and then had dinner at his favorite pub!"
