Lake Shore Drive, Chicago 2006

I'm learning how to correct for my tendency to forget to adjust settings on my camera. I used to shoot fully manual (a Nikon FM), and all I had to worry about was shutter speed, aperture and focus. ISO was set and forget. My light meter was three LEDs in the view finder.

Now I have far too many things that have to remember to check. I still mostly set ISO down to 200 and forget it until the light starts to go. Except on this trip. I had set the ISO to 1600 (either from shooting buildings in the evening, or experiments with astrophotography), and forgot to dial it down again. That's why the last couple of Chicago shots were a bit grainy.

White balance is the thing that usually kills me. Maybe having to color-correct a couple of hundred ren faire pictures will be lesson enough to get me into the habit of checking. :)
